A bargain at the price - Steve, 24 July 2025
I bought this trackball to replace a seven year old Logitech MX Ergo trackball, whose left button microswitch was failing. I only had to see the price of those now to start looking for alternatives and found this Port Connect device at a little over a quarter of the price.
I've been using it for almost three weeks now and while there were some ergonomic differences at first that I thought would be a problem, I soon became used to it and using it feels totally natural now. The MX Ergo had a tilting base allowing it to be used in a flatter or more vertical mode. I found it more comfortable to use the more vertical mode and the fact that the Port Connect device doesn't tilt but has an even more vertical hand position is a plus as I find it even more comfortable to use.
Also a plus is the Bluetooth support allowing me to use the supplied wireless dongle in my desktop and Bluetooth to connect to my laptop whereas I needed to purchase a second unifying receiver (dongle) to use the MX Ergo on both computers. There is a problem with switching devices though. While the MX Ergo has a button on top to switch between connections one and two, the Port Connect device has a manual three-position switch underneath with [Wireless]-[Off]-[Bluetooth] positions. So to switch computers you have to lift up the device and move the switch on the bottom. Something to consider if you want to be constantly switching between two computers.
The other down side is the button on top of the device to switch DPI between 800|1200|1600. THere is no indication of which is selected and I don't see a noticeble difference in normal use. Perhaps this will be more noticeable and beneficial to gamers; I don't game so can't really say.
Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.
